    Harrison Clark Rickerbys

“I started working at Harrison Clark Rickerbys as an Office Junior in 2011. It was at this time that I decided that I wanted to become a solicitor and I started to look at what I needed to do to achieve this. I made my decision that I did not want to move away for University and I enrolled on the Foundation Degree in Paralegal Skills at the Heart of Worcestershire College, awarded by Staffordshire University. This meant that I could start studying law on a part-time basis and continue to progress my career at HCR. I obtained a merit in the Foundation Degree in the summer of 2015 and I enrolled on a 2 year LLB course, due to finish in 2017.

In April 2014 I was promoted from an Office Assistant to a Paralegal, as a result of starting studying and the knowledge that I was gaining on the Foundation Degree.

The Foundation Degree is designed to give people a formal qualification, combining both practical and legal skills, in order for them to start a career in law. Combining part-time study with working as a Paralegal helped me to develop my legal skills and progress my career.”

    Oliver Hunt

“I have been with HCR for 9 years and I am currently a Senior Associate in the Employment team in Cheltenham. I discovered I wanted a career in law during my A-level studies. When I chose my A-level subjects I stuck with the classics (Maths, English literature and Biology) but went out on a limb and selected Law as my fourth A-level.

I was also fortunate enough to be able to gain work experience with both barristers’ chambers and solicitors which confirmed to me the career I wanted to pursue. At this time I was also able to narrow down that I wanted to be a solicitor and not a barrister. This was mainly due to the frenetic lifestyle of a barrister which I experienced during mini pupillage.

Following my A-levels I went on to study for an LLB in Law at the University of the West of England. I also stayed at UWE to complete my LPC full time.”

    Rachel Roberts

“I have been at Harrison Clark Rickerbys for just under six years and do wish I’d made the move earlier! I enjoy working as a PA at HCR as everyone is very friendly and helpful and the job is varied – this is a fast-paced environment and no two days are the same.

“HCR has grown over the years, to become a top 100 law firm, creating lots of career opportunities for support staff to advance within the firm, from office junior to PA, or even to qualify as a legal executive or a solicitor. There is always training available for support staff to enhance our skills to help with the job that we do.”

    Stephanie Tohill, PA

Kate Ware’s passion is developing people, enhancing their skills and empowering them. Having qualified in hospitality and catering, Kate took on the role of Learning and Development Coordinator here in 2016 and has subsequently been promoted, after a flying start with the firm.

“We recognise that our strengths lie in the skills and abilities of our people and it’s this passion for people that keeps me motivated. My role is so varied, I can be in a different office every day coordinating training, and I am privileged to have the opportunity to meet with every team across the firm.”

Kate Ware, Learning & Talent Manager

“I joined the firm as a paralegal in 2009 in the middle of a recession – at a time when many firms were making cuts, Harrison Clark Rickerbys gave me this opportunity and I have always been grateful for that.

“Throughout my time here, the firm’s expectations and targets for me have always been clearly communicated and set out, so I have always known what was needed in order to progress; they have always provided me with the platform, opportunities and guidance required in order to meet these targets. I can sincerely say that the firm is a strong believer in helping individuals fulfil their potential and providing all individuals with equal opportunities to progress.”
