Carers Week 9th – 15th June 2014
Carers Week is an awareness campaign run annually with the aim of improving the lives both of carers and those they care for. This year Carers Week will run from Monday 9th June to Sunday 15th June. Carers Week is supported by a number of national charities including Age UK, Parkinson’s UK, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Carers UK and Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Every year Carers Week aim to publicly acknowledge how much carers contribute to our society and to ensure support and information is easily accessible for those finding themselves either needing care or to provide care to a relative. The care system is complicated and with decisions often needing to be made quickly, it is important that those needing help can be supported with appropriate information and advice when required.
In Carers Week 2014 the central theme is of a “Carers Quest” and individuals and organisations are being asked to make a pledge, however small, to raise awareness. The hope is that carers can be pointed in the right direction to find the support they need and information that will help them. On Carers Week’s website they have a “quest pledge wall” for anyone to post their pledge of what they plan to do during Carers Week. Suggestions include:-
- Running an event to raise awareness;
- Obtaining information for a carer you know;
- Finding out about local carers’ services and sharing the information with colleagues.
