Legal teams “Walk the Blindfold Mile” to understand challenges

Two teams from Harrison Clark Rickerbys will be “Walking the Blindfold Mile” through Malvern to raise money for charity Sight Concern Worcestershire on Saturday April 21.

In pairs, Anita Hennessey, Rupert Seldon, Philippa Shepherd and Naomi Trinder will make their way around Malvern, each taking turns to lead their blindfolded partner or be blindfolded themselves, during the walk around the town centre. The walk starts and ends at Malvern Cube, taking in the Library, the Priory, Malvern Theatres and Priory Park.  There will also be challenges to complete along the way related to everyday tasks such as buying a cup of coffee and using a white cane.

Anita said: “We are delighted to be able to take part and I hope we can raise both money and awareness. I’ve been involved with New College in Worcester for some time, so I know a little about the challenges that face blind or partially sighted people every day. Now I’ll get the chance to experience that for myself to a small degree.”

Fiona Baker, fundraising manager for Sight Concern, said: “We wanted to combine fundraising with increased awareness of the challenges which blind and partially sighted people overcome each day. Everyone is welcome to take part – it should be a new, inspirational and thought-provoking experience.”

She added, “We’re over the moon that two pairs from Harrison Clark Rickerbys are taking part and please support them as much as you can. If you would like to join them, places are still available at www.sightconcern.co.uk/blindfoldmile or ring Penny Weir on 01905 332914.”

Sight Concern is a county wide charity supporting blind and partially sighted people to lead independent and fulfilling lives.  The charity has been successfully supporting people with sight loss for over 130 years.
