Supporting the next generation of legal talent at the University of Gloucestershire

29th December 2021

Recognising law students who excel in their field, Harrison Clark Rickerbys has sponsored the Best Overall Law Student prize at the University of Gloucestershire, presented this year to Harvey King by trainee solicitor and former UoG student Philippa Shepherd.

HCR has sponsored the award for several years; Philippa was presented with the award at her own graduation in 2017 and has been asked back by the university to present it ever since.

Following the event, Philippa said: “It’s a real privilege that we’re able to continue to support the University of Gloucestershire in this way. It’s a great university and I’m pleased that we can show our backing for the students. After last year’s ceremony was postponed, it felt even more special to be there again in person to commend the class of 2021. I’d also like to congratulate Harvey both for graduating with First Class Honours and for achieving this award – he should be very proud of his accomplishments.”

Harvey said: “I was delighted to receive the Harrison Clark Rickerbys Prize for highest achieving law student. Our entire cohort endured a number of challenges during the Covid-affected second and third years of the degree, and it was fantastic to receive recognition for all the hard work, none of which would have been possible without the support and challenge provided by the lecturers at the University of Gloucestershire.

“I am now reading for a Masters of Law at the University of Cambridge, primarily focused on research into corporate governance and insolvency.

“I would like to thank HCR for their active role in facilitating practical legal experience for UoG students. I personally enjoyed a very engaging placement week with HCR in the first year of the degree, so it was all the more gratifying that the award came from a company with such strong links with the university.”
