A bit about me

Horse have been a part of my life since I was four, so equine law was an obvious choice for me – litigation in the equestrian sector often touches upon people’s love for their horses and so they need a lawyer who really understands. Because I have owned and competed horses for so long, I know every aspect of the sport and the industry, so I can help owners, breeders, competitors and businesses alike.

I work with members of British Dressage and the British Horse Society, advising and supporting them, but I also handle issues of professional negligence and contractual disputes.

After I had a disabling riding accident in 2004, I’ve competed internationally as a para dressage rider, and was invited to join the UK Sport World Class Development programme. My experience, combined with my legal expertise, is a winning combination.

Take a step back to really evaluate your situation and protect yourself as far as possible from future legal disputes.

The equine industry still operates heavily on the ‘gentleman’s handshake’ when entering into contracts. Make sure you enter into contracts with clear terms, even when dealing with friends.

Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone or email me as soon as you suspect something may be going wrong. It is better to get advice as early as possible.

I bought a horse very recently and now I am having problems with it. Can I get my money back?

Each case is considered separately and we are happy to talk to you about the situation. Forging new relationships with horses isn’t generally immediate, every horse and owner is different. We will need as much information as possible regarding the purchase and the background of the situation. Subject to the individual nature of the case we may need an independent professional to assess the horse first.

want to start my own business in the equine industry which will have employees/grooms/liveries/horses in for training. Can I use ready-made contracts?

There are law firms who do offer this but we believe that each case is individual and requires a bespoke approach. Please do get in touch to discuss your situation and what your specific needs are.
