Stewart Wright is a solicitor specialising in licensing law associated with the licensing and regulatory team.
He has had a successful career within local government legal departments for the last 27 years, where he has been a legal manager and solicitor, responsible for various functions including licensing law, regulatory law and corporate governance.
Stewart has advised elected members and local government officers extensively on all aspects of licensing, including the drafting of policy and procedure, advising at committee and representing the council at court on all subsequent appeals.
He continues as a consultant to advise and represent clients at committee and court on licensing law.
Stewart has a particular expertise in private hire and taxi licensing and is able to accept instructions from drivers and operators, for legal advice and representation before committee or on any subsequent appeal to the magistrates’ court. He is also able to accept instructions from local authorities.
Stewart has interests outside the law including being an independent person helping to uphold standards of conduct within a local authority, a board member with a housing association and a school governor.
