HCR 235 – Assistant Solicitor

This is a fantastic time to be joining Harrison Clark Rickerbys. Having grown exponentially over the last few years, we are now more than 560 strong with 9 offices across the UK.

We are looking for a 1-4 year PQE Assistant Solicitor to come and join our Commercial team here in Thames Valley, to work on general commercial contract matters across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on IP/IT and Technology.

Assistant Solicitor – Main purpose

To support the lead Commercial Partner in our Thames Valley office on all work allocated to a standard expected for the corresponding level of experience and qualification held by the post holder. We require 1-4 years PQE within Commercial, trained and with experience at a national, regional or City law firm, in-house experience welcome.

We would need you to have business to business commercial contracts’ experience, cross-sector, ideally with some intellectual property/IT/technology contracts’ experience. Experience of data protection and privacy matters is desirable.

Key requirements

  • Excellent academics and technical skills
  • Attention to detail, both in substance and presentation
  • Experience of advising on, drafting and reviewing some or all of:
    Business to business terms and conditions, supply of services’ contracts, distribution/reseller contracts, manufacturing contracts, technology services’ agreements, intellectual property assignments/licences, software licences and/or data processing agreements.
  • Ability to produce first draft contracts to a high standard (using and tailoring precedents where appropriate)
  • Ability to conduct research with care and report findings in an organised and succinct manner
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • A mixture of experience of supporting partners and senior lawyers as part of a team on client projects, and leading and managing files independently
  • A willingness to participate in marketing and business development activities

Financial Contribution

  • Understanding of financial matters relating to own work – e.g. billable hours, WIP, “Write Off” time
  • Suggests ideas for increasing fees
  • Applies the rules of professional conduct to accounting and financial matters

Business Development and Marketing the Firm

  • Seeks opportunities to network in order to promote the Firm
  • Consistently tries to improve the service we provide through own actions
  • Understands the impact of own behaviour and how this can affect the reputation of the Firm

Technical and Legal

  • Understands legal concepts and can explain them clearly to others
  • Seeks out/ makes use of opportunities to develop knowledge of chosen practice area
  • Uses multiple sources of information to make effective judgements
  • Able to undertake some file work with limited supervision
  • Understands the importance of checking all work product for accuracy
