What do you want at work and does your boss know?

If you long to work from home more, wish for a shorter commute and hate hot desking, you are not alone – a good proportion of the 400 people who answered our survey on what people want from their workspace agree with you.

But your employer may not think these factors matter to you – perhaps they don’t encourage home working? They are certainly more likely to use co-working spaces themselves without encouraging their staff to do so, just as our survey showed that they are more likely to work during their commute and be in favour of hot desking.

The survey highlighted what people want now from where they work and to consider how this might change for the future, especially as the trend towards the varied use of office space for break-out zones or chill-out rooms continues.

With employers keen to make the most of their investment, they may focus on out of town sites, which lengthen commuting times and perhaps don’t support the desire to travel more sustainably. But they may offer more space for the same money as a city centre site, playing to their staff’s liking for their own desks.

What do you want from where you work? Do you want the perfect commute time? Up to 15 minutes is most people’s idea of perfect, apparently, and only 7% of them feel their commute is cost-effective. Are you more productive in your own space working from home or would you find that a challenge?

Why not let us know what matters most to you about where you work and how you think the office of the future should look?
