Client Story

University/corporation collaboration benefits from specialist legal expertise

5th June 2019

Successful collaboration between a university and a large corporation to establish new commercial income streams was supported by Nicola McNeely’s expertise so that contracts and commercial terms could be agreed quickly and in a balanced way, while risk was managed.

The university had a long-standing commercial relationship with the corporation, but they needed advice on the specific contract, which also needed review. Nicola’s expertise and understanding of the key commercial terms, the level of risk with which her client was happy and areas where they needed guidance meant that the work could be done swiftly, efficiently and within budget.

She supported the university with detailed scrutiny of the contract, a prioritised list of proposed changes and an explanation of the risks involved; it meant that the university could finalise the contract quickly and keep their risk to a minimum.

Their COO said: “Nicola McNeely was fantastic. She inspired confidence in the whole team by preparing a meaningful and straightforward prioritised list of areas to address. Further, she explained clearly the consequences/risks faced by the business should each point not be addressed.”
