Almshouse charity collaboration approved following advice from HCR Law

With a large charity team, we’re well known for our expertise in the sector, particularly our specialist knowledge and advice for Almshouses.

We were approached by the trustees of two sets of ancient Almshouses for advice on how to work more collaboratively and effectively. There were clear similarities between them in terms of location and benefit provided but with a disparity in financial positions.

Using our extensive experience in this area, we enabled one of the charities to extend its area of benefit, allowing it to encompass the beneficiaries of the less wealthy charity. This route was taken as it provided the greatest benefit to the local community. The changes were made via a cy-pres application to the Charity Commission which approved the application and drafted a new scheme to sit alongside the existing constitution.
