Well known for our expertise in this area, we were contacted by an ancient Almshouse charity who were looking to convert to a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) as they were looking to manage risk and to implement a strategy for succession planning.

The HCR Law team advised throughout the conversion including the preparation of a constitution for the CIO, drafting supporting documents (including residents’ application form, safeguarding policy, eligibility criteria for residents), preparing resolutions and minutes, submitting the application for registration and advising the trustees on issues raised by the Charity Commission following the submission of the application.

Specialist advice was also provided to the trustees in connection with the steps required to transfer all the assets of the charity to the CIO, including the permanently endowed almshouses themselves.

The HCR Real Estate team also supported with the first registration of the almshouses and their subsequent transfer to the CIO.
