HCR Law marks International Day of Older Persons with later living roundtable
14 October 2025
On the International Day of Older Persons, 1 October 2025, experts from the housing and care sectors gathered at HCR Law’s Cheltenham office for a roundtable on later living.
Chaired by Professor Julienne Meyer, who led the government’s Older People’s Housing Taskforce, the roundtable explored the findings of the Taskforce report, the future of older people’s housing and the sector’s connections to health and social care.
With 20% of the UK population aged over 65, delegates discussed the challenges facing the later living sector and the urgent need for a housing strategy to support a super-ageing population.
There was insightful discussion about the complexity older people face when making housing decisions and the need for clearer communication around the health benefits of age-friendly accommodation.
The conversation highlighted the role of community and social connections in the wellbeing of older adults, as well as the valuable contributions older people make to their communities – reflecting this year’s International Day of Older Persons theme: “Building Belonging: Celebrating the power of our social connections.”
The roundtable also emphasised the need for immediate, collective action by professionals, local authorities and communities to address the challenges of an ageing society, rather than waiting for top-down solutions.
A full report on the roundtable will be published shortly.
