HCR lawyers training hard for Chariots of Fire

Who's the top trump for Chariots of Fire 2025?

Committed to making an impact in the communities they live and work in, HCR Hewitsons is once again leading the way in entering teams for Chariots of Fire – the county’s largest charitable relay race.

Multiple teams from the firm are already in training, ready to don their distinctive teal t-shirts in support of this year’s charity partner, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

For over 35 years the law firm has, via its charity, not only organised but consistently taken part in Chariots of Fire. And this year is no exception with each of HCR Hewitsons’ teams pulling out all the stops to exceed the sponsorship target of £250 per team.

With a range of abilities and experience, from marathon finishers to those newly converted to running, there’s already a good dose of healthy competition developing among the teams. Some are using parkruns for practice, others may be more focused on the post-run refreshments, but the common thread throughout is the desire to raise money for a great cause.

Taking on this year’s race, we have the Judicious Joggers who are mostly newbies to Chariots of Fire. Out to impress, they’re focusing on clean baton passes, nailing transitions without tumbles after last year’s rainy conditions.

Joining them on the starting line are the HardCore Runners. For this team, it’s all about balance – while race strategy meetings take place in the pub, contenders include a marathon runner, Hyrox hero and functional fitness fan who has no problem bashing out burpees before breakfast.

No Limit(ation dates) is perhaps HCR Hewitsons’ most experienced team, with a 10-time Chariots of Fire finisher, parkrun regular and a former teen track star, who’s recently completed a 100km race, joining forces to win.

Hot on their heels are the Worcester Whirlwinds, also in it to win it. They’re keeping their pacing strategy close to their chest but when the going gets tough, they’ll be thinking of the post-race bacon rolls to spur them on.

Finally, doing it for the juniors, Just Hewit brings netball enthusiasts, former cheerleaders and ballroom dancers together in a force to be reckoned with. Their secret weapon? A London Marathon finisher in the ranks.

Up to 300 teams are expected to enter the race and HCR Hewitsons will join teams from businesses across the county – and beyond – to run the unique 1.7-mile course though the heart of Cambridge.

Colin Jones, Trustee of the HCR Hewitsons Charity, said: “Having run myself in Chariots every year since 1992, I’m delighted to be involved once again and to raise money for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. The Charity provides a fantastic service for children and their families in and around Cambridgeshire and we’re really pleased that the money raised from Chariots of Fire will support them for 2025, enabling them to do even more.

“We have multiple teams taking part from across our offices and, through the combined support of the community, we hope to help them reach their £75,000 fundraising goal.”

This year, the race starts and finishes on Queens’ Green on 21 September 2025.

With just over a month to go, there’s still time to take part in Chariots of Fire. Visit www.chariots-of-fire.co.uk to enter your team and start raising money for this year’s official charity, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity (www.roalddahlcharity.org).
