Kate Oliver and the Sport Birmingham Trustee Board

Kate Oliver, Partner in HCR Law’s Insurance, Risk and Regulatory team, has been appointed to the Sport Birmingham trustee board.

Sport Birmingham is a strategic sports partnership and registered charity whose mission is to get the city moving – physically, socially and mentally. It partners with charities like Mind to challenge mental health stigma and support people affected by mental health issues to become more active.

Its vision is for all young people in Birmingham to benefit from excellent physical education, school sport and lifelong participation in physical activity – and it works to make sport more inclusive.

Sport Birmingham is governed by board members who bring a wealth of skills and knowledge. The board’s key aims are to work with partners to increase participation in sport, physical education and active recreation, and to build clear pathways for people with sporting talent to help them reach their potential.

Kate’s appointment reflects her deep sector knowledge and more than 18 years’ experience at the coalface of regulatory investigations.

Her specialisms include safeguarding, health and safety defence and general criminal defence. She works with a wide range of industries, including sporting clubs and organisations, and National Governing Bodies.

Kate said: “I’m thrilled and excited to join a great team of people at Sport Birmingham. I’m Birmingham born and bred, so was keen to get involved with a local charity – and I’ve been involved in sports all my life through playing, coaching and umpiring.”

“Being a regulatory lawyer in the sports sector and as a safeguarding specialist, it is important to me to be involved with a charity like Sport Birmingham.”

Sport Birmingham said: “We warmly welcome Kate to the group. Her experience of working on legal matters in the sports sector and her specialism in safeguarding will be of immense value to us.”
