Meet the team – Alan Meiklejohn

17th November 2021

What has been your worst job? It probably doesn’t involve palm trees and Australia, so we don’t feel too sorry for Alan Meiklejohn, to whom we introduce you this month. But it hasn’t put him off the warmer areas of the world.

What was the worst job you’ve ever had?

Planting palm trees at noon in the northern territories of Australia – adjacent to a swimming pool full of people who kept offering us advice! They also gave me some of the worst advice ever – I couldn’t possibly repeat it here.

If you could eliminate one thing from your daily routine, what would it be and why?

The commute, because it can be such dead time.

Which song can you listen to all day long?

Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns ‘n’ Roses, followed very closely by Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

If you could meet any living person for dinner, who would you pick?

The Irish Rugby Union player Brian O’Driscoll, even though his book was a bit anodyne for my taste.

What is your favourite place out of all the places you’ve travelled?

Oh, there’s a few! Barbados, followed by Andalusia, probably. I’d also very happily go back to Rome and Budapest as well.
