In our latest meet the team series, we introduce you to Jenny Staples, Corporate Partner and Acting Head of our Hereford office. Jenny shares why she decided on a career in law and her most memorable moment.
What first attracted you to a career in law?
Having watched too much Ally McBeal I decided to study A-Level law which sparked my interest for the law. I then went on to gain my law degree which cemented my ambition to become a lawyer. However, having chosen to specialise in corporate law, unlike Ally McBeal, I rarely step foot in a court room.
What type of legal advice do you provide? And to what sorts of client?
I act for companies of all sizes, from owner-managed to plcs, in respect of buying or selling business interests, corporate restructures, shareholders’ agreements and articles of association. My clients operate across a wide range of sectors from financial services and manufacturing to education and agriculture, and I support these clients with all of their corporate law needs.
What is your most memorable legal experience? And why?
I enjoy working with clients to deliver their strategic objectives. I have been fortunate enough to work with various clients to deliver their growth objectives and ultimately their long-term exit objectives. Having worked with a long-standing plc company over many years facilitating their growth plans through numerous acquisitions of financial advisory businesses, it was particularly great to advise the client on a major disposal which, in turn, facilitated the continued growth of the company.
What is your number one top tip for clients?
Selling or buying a business is one of the most stressful things you will do so ensure your advisory team have the necessary skills and experience to support you through the process. A great advisory team will take a great deal of stress out of the process.
