In our latest ‘Meet the team…’, we introduce you to Tom Riley, a Senior Associate Solicitor in our Restructuring and Insolvency team.
Based in our Birmingham office, Tom lives in Stafford with his wife, Sophie, and cat, Seb – and with a baby girl on the way, life is about to get even more exciting. Tom believes in working hard, keeping a sense of humour and enjoying the simple things in life: good food, good drink and good company.
What reality TV show would you most like to be on?
Probably The Great British Bake Off. I can’t bake to save my life, and my pregnant wife currently dislikes everything I cook, but I’d love to see whether I can keep my cool or crumble under time pressure while trying to pull off a Victoria sponge.
If you could meet any one person living or dead, who would it be and why?
My Welsh grandfather, Pops. I never met him. He served in the Burma campaign and, after leaving the army, became a headmaster of a mixed ability primary school in the Rhondda Valley. He was awarded an MBE. I’d love the chance to sit down with him.
If you were a wrestler, what would your entrance song be?
Money, Money, Money by ABBA – Let’s be real for a minute, there is a stereotype for us lawyers. Might as well own it!
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Morning person – but nothing sensible comes out until I’ve thawed after my first coffee.
If you were able to travel in time, when (and where) would you go?
The 1990s as an adult. It seemed like a booming time, but I was too young to remember it properly. I’d make sure to avoid meeting myself to steer clear of any Back to the Future-style time paradoxes.
