Charlotte Tapp

HR Consultant

Why choose me

I help businesses look after their people properly — providing practical HR support that helps employers create positive workplaces, deal with people issues confidently and support their employees fairly and consistently.

My experience in both HR consultancy and employment law gives me a valuable dual perspective. While my advice is always people-focused and commercially practical, my legal background helps me spot potential issues early and address them before they become bigger problems.

I support employers across the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to performance management, absence management, disciplinary matters, grievances and employee exits. I regularly advise on day-to-day HR queries and work closely with managers to help them navigate challenging workplace situations with confidence.

A key part of my role involves conducting workplace investigations and managing grievance processes. Whether dealing with concerns around conduct, workplace relationships, performance issues or employee complaints, I take a fair, thorough and pragmatic approach that helps organisations reach sensible and balanced outcomes.

I work with SMEs and owner-managed businesses across a range of sectors, from start-ups establishing their first HR processes and documentation to established organisations managing organisational change and complex employee relations matters.

My clients include charities and not-for-profit organisations, schools and academies, healthcare providers and businesses in sectors such as hospitality, manufacturing and logistics.

I believe good HR is about more than solving problems when they arise. I work proactively with clients to strengthen people practices, support managers and create workplace cultures where employees can thrive. My aim is to give organisations not only solutions to immediate challenges, but also the confidence and knowledge to manage future issues effectively.

I take the time to understand each organisation’s culture, pressures and objectives, providing advice that’s tailored, commercially practical and easy to implement. I focus on building long-term relationships, acting as a trusted extension of my clients’ teams and supporting their wider business goals.

Outside work, my passion is netball. I play locally and, together with my husband, founded our own netball club, managing everything from membership and finances to fixtures and community engagement. I coach netball at both club and county level and am a qualified umpire officiating at national level.

Questions my clients ask me

It’s important to follow a fair capability process — setting expectations, providing support, conducting reviews, giving a reasonable opportunity to improve, documenting everything and following the ACAS Code of Practice. Rushing risks an unfair dismissal claim.

Don’t panic. Acknowledge it promptly in writing, appoint an impartial investigator, avoid informal discussions that could compromise fairness, follow the grievance policy and ACAS Code and ensure the employee feels heard. Well-handled grievances rarely escalate to tribunal.

You can’t unilaterally change contractual terms. Consult with employees and seek consent. ‘Fire and rehire’ may be an option of last resort, but it carries significant legal risk. Open dialogue and transitional arrangements are often the most practical approach.
