Katie Powell

CILEx Lawyer

Why choose me

I help parents and separating couples resolve issues involving children and finances as smoothly and constructively as possible, with a focus on avoiding unnecessary conflict and court proceedings wherever appropriate .

I advise on all elements of family law including divorce and separation, financial matters arising from relationship breakdown, child arrangements and domestic abuse issues. I also assist clients who wish to protect their financial position before entering a new relationship, through pre-nupital and post-nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements.

I understand that family law matters can be emotionally and practically challenging. My approach is calm, supportive and straightforward. I provide clear and realistic advice, tailored to each client’s circumstances, without legal jargon or false promises. I ensure that clients feel informed and supported throughout the process.

Every family and every situation is different. I take the time to understand what matters most to each client so I can offer practical solutions and advice which is right for them.

I am committed to helping clients achieve the best possible outcome for their future, whilst making the process as manageable as possible during what is usually a difficult period in their lives.

Outside work, I enjoy cooking and hosting for family and friends, travelling and exploring new places and spending time outdoors with my family and our fox red Labrador. At weekends, I support my children with their sporting hobbies, football and horse riding. I also enjoy team sports myself, playing netball in the Herefordshire Netball League.

Questions my clients ask me

A divorce usually takes around seven months. During that time, it’s often possible to reach an agreement about finances and arrangements for children. If court proceedings become necessary, the process is more likely to take around 10–12 months. I’ll always keep timescales under review and let you know if matters are likely to take longer than initially expected.

Costs depend on the individual circumstances of the case and the level of agreement between the parties. Once I have more information, I’ll provide a clear cost estimate, which will be kept under review and updated as the case progresses.

There’s no fixed outcome when it comes to dividing matrimonial assets. A range of outcomes may be possible, depending on the facts of the case. Any settlement should be fair and reasonable. I’ll provide detailed advice once full financial disclosure has taken place and as matters develop.
