Why choose me
I’m a real estate lawyer, with a particular focus on social housing and retirement living.
I was drawn to these areas as I wanted to use my legal knowledge to give back to the community. Housing can be a political hot potato and I’m eager to influence and support a change in approach to housing in England and Wales.
My clients include registered housing providers, housing charities, private retirement living developers and fully mutual housing associations. Using my extensive experience in the sector, I support my clients to deliver affordable homes to people on lower incomes, or who are elderly or vulnerable.
Well known both within the social housing sector and the retirement living market, I understand the challenges, the stigma and the opportunities in each area. My clients benefit from this experience and the knowledge that I’m not afraid to assess the risks and help them tackle any challenges up front to save time and money later down the line.
I advise clients on a range of property related matters including land acquisition, property disposal, share ownership sales, right to buy and right to acquire transactions, site set ups and general property work such as restrictive covenants and deeds of variation. I also regularly advise on more complex issues such as bespoke leasehold packages for retirement living sales alongside assistance with operational problems with existing schemes and strategic advice in relation to portfolio disposal.
When I’m not at work I love walking my dogs and going to the theatre. I’m also a big fan of good food and wine and like cooking for friends and family.

Questions my clients ask me
It’s important that we have all the information we need up front so we can foresee the blockers and avoid delays. It’s also important that the buyer understands the process and instructs a lawyer quickly. We don’t delay answering additional enquiries and the use of a client portal can provide good transparency and up to date data to improve completion timescales.
You need to create a sense of community as early as possible in the process. Potential customers need to understand what retirement living is and be excited about the next stage of home ownership, which must always include their family as well. Selling retirement is never about just getting a commitment from the end user. It is about the huge health and well-being benefits of living in accommodation that is better suited to your needs. Encouraging this understanding will improve turnaround times and avoid costly cancellations.
Always. I’d rather you make contact when something is just an idea so I can sense check what it is that you are considering and flag anything that could be problematic or needs further investigation (or additional involvement), as this will save you time and money in the long run.
