Rebecca Broom

Solicitor

Why choose me

I am a family lawyer, advising on all aspects of family law and offering guidance during what is often an emotionally challenging time.

I chose to specialise in family matters as I like being able to support people through difficult situations. Every client’s situation is unique, and I enjoy the variety and complexity that comes with each case. Using my experience, I offer clear, pragmatic advice, tailored to the specific needs of each client.

I am empathetic and approachable and am always fully invested in helping my clients to move forward with confidence and clarity.

Clients come to me for advice on all aspects of family law including divorce, financial disputes, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and cohabitation agreements. I also advise clients on child arrangements and, should one be needed, I also advise on injunction orders.

Outside work I enjoy travelling and skiing, and anything food related.

Questions my clients ask me

The treatment of inherited assets in divorce proceedings can be complex and largely depends on the specific circumstances. If inherited assets have been mixed with matrimonial property, for example by using inherited funds to pay down the mortgage on the family home, they are less likely to be treated as separate and protected from division. Conversely, if the inheritance has been kept entirely separate from the marital finances, such as remaining in a distinct account and not used for joint purposes, there is a stronger argument for it to be protected during divorce.

A divorce will take a minimum of 26 weeks but for some couples, it may take longer if the financial settlement is yet to be agreed.

It will depend on what you are looking to protect. A pre-nuptial agreement can be very effective for people who already have some assets, or are likely to acquire more assets than their spouse in the future, and wish to protect those assets in case of divorce.
