I have more than 20 years’ experience working in and advising the charity and education sectors. Before joining HCR Law, I held roles within both sectors, giving me a strong understanding of the environments in which my clients operate. Combined with my experience as a specialist charity and education lawyer, this allows me to provide practical, informed advice tailored to their needs and objectives.
I advise independent and state-funded education providers on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues. My particular areas of expertise include school governance, regulatory compliance, school set-up and registration, inspections, safeguarding legislation and multi-agency arrangements.
I also support schools in managing parental complaints and advise on a range of pupil matters, including exclusions and suspensions, equality and discrimination issues, disability discrimination claims, reasonable adjustments and education, health and care plans (EHCPs).
Alongside my legal practice, I remain actively involved in the education and charity sectors. I am a member of the Independent Schools Council’s safeguarding and SEND advisory groups and have held senior advisory and legal roles throughout my career.
Outside work, I chair the advisory board of a children’s charity supporting young people in and on the fringes of the care system and have volunteered as a mentor for alumni supported by the Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation. I am also a Level 3 trained designated safeguarding lead (DSL) and Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) club welfare officer.
I have written extensively for education sector organisations and publications, including the Independent Schools Council (ISC), Independent Schools Bursars Association (ISBA), Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA), Institute of School Business Leadership (ISBL) and Tes.
