Meet the Family Law team – Lauren Nash

Lauren Nash is a Senior Associate in our Hereford Family Law team. She tells us about why she became a family lawyer, the type of advice she provides, and the time she sat before the President of the Family Division of the High Court.

What first attracted you to a career in law?

My decision to become a solicitor was because I wanted a career that would be challenging and fulfilling. I was attracted to family law because I thought every day would be different due to the wide range of issues that are involved.

What type of legal advice do you provide and to what sorts of client?

I provide advice on all types of family legal issues, mostly to do with the breakdown of a relationships. My advice ranges from issues about divorce and dissolution, to financial matters following the breakdown of a relationship. Financial matters can involve considering pensions and property and how these are to be treated after the relationship has broken down. I also advise on matters relating to children specifically issues about who they should live with and who they should spend time with. My client base is wide ranging from spouses and civil partners to unmarried co-habitants or parents that have never been married. I also advise grandparents about their legal position. My clients can be local or national. I have a particular interest in advising members of the Armed Forces community in accordance with the military covenant.

What is your most memorable legal experience and why?

Two moments spring to mind. My first would be sitting with a QC at the High Court before Sir James Munby, who was President of the Family Division of the High Court at the time. The issue involved the division of company assets that had been accrued during the marriage.  The second involved representing a father who I secured a change of residence for when the mother had been subjecting the child to underlying abuse.

What is your number one top tip for clients?

Remain as calm as you can in difficult situations and keep talking to me – the more you tell me, the more I can help to fight your corner.
