Companies House WebFiling will undergo major updates in autumn 2025, with a strong focus on improving security.
Changes will include updates to the identity verification process for directors and people with significant control (PSCs), as well as updates to the way companies access their WebFiling online account.
GOV.UK One
On 13 October 2025, Companies House introduced a new, more secure way to access your WebFiling account. Companies will now be required to sign in using GOV.UK One Login, a single sign-in service for accessing government services online.
This means that, when companies next attempt to sign in to WebFiling, the authorised person will be prompted to link their existing WebFiling account to a GOV.UK One Login.
Please note that you will no longer be able to access WebFiling without connecting your account to GOV.UK One Login.
Identity verification
Identity verification will become a legal requirement for new and existing company directors and PSCs. This change is set to take effect from 18 November 2025 and represents a significant shift from the current system, where identity verification is entirely voluntary.
Under the new regulations, all directors and PSCs will be required by law to verify their identity before they can be appointed or continue in their roles. This includes both individuals being added to the register and those already listed.
Individuals can verify their identity at Companies House by using the GOV.UK One login through the ‘Verify your identity for Companies House’ service, or through an authorised corporate service provider – for example, an accountant or solicitor.
What you need to do
To make sure you can still access your WebFiling account, it’s important to:
- Make sure the email address you use to sign in to WebFiling is up to date and that you have access to it
- Check the list of companies you’re authorised to file for in your WebFiling account and remove any companies you no longer file for
- Ensure any new company filings from 18 November 2025 onwards are made by verified individuals.
