HCR Hereford helps local charities

5th February 2024

Over the last 13 months the Hereford office has been delighted to support a local charity, St Michael’s Hospice, through a variety of fundraising events and providing support on the ground to help with projects. St Michael’s Hospice offers day services and inpatient palliative care to patients who are suffering from illness and/or nearing the end of their life, whilst providing support to the patient’s family and friends. Many people in our community (and office) will have come into contact with such services, or know someone who has been supported by St Michael’s Hospice, and that is why our staff voted for the hospice to be our charity of the year.

Over the last 13 months we have completed a range of challenges to raise vital funds for the hospice and are delighted to have raised a total of £6,058! Our efforts have included walking 15km as part of the Venus Walk, singing (some of which was questionable) along to an office rendition of ABBA’s ‘Waterloo’ as part of the ‘HCR-o-vision’, carrying out Christmas related tasks over the ‘HCR’s 12 days of Christmas’, putting on a live band night where members of our Family team performed, and most recently hosting a charity quiz.

Our efforts have not just stopped at raising money, we have volunteered our time and handy skills to help the hospice with a number of projects. This includes helping decorate the new hospice charity shop which opened in Ross-on-Wye in 2023, helping put stock on the shelves of the new, soon-to-open, charity shop on Eign Gate in Hereford and donating bags full of clothes and unwanted Christmas gifts to the hospice charity shops.

We also supported another fantastic local charity, Hereford Open Door, at the end of 2023. £1,750 was raised by rolling out an initiative for our staff to collect all kinds of long-lost currency from the bottom of their beach bags, suitcases or even from down the back of the sofa. Hereford Open Door provides cooked breakfasts and gift cards to Herefordshire Council’s Street Outreach Workers for distribution to those in need. The charity also supports the Winter Night Shelter and The Living Hope in the city.
