What does financial abuse look like for older and vulnerable adults today?

That’s the question we’re asking in our latest research initiative at HCR Law. With growing concerns about the experiences of older and incapacitated individuals, their families and carers, we are launching a survey to explore the realities of financial and economic abuse in England and Wales.

What are we asking, and why?

The Older and Vulnerable Persons team at HCR Law exists to advise and support those navigating complex legal challenges. Through this survey, we aim to better understand the scale and nature of financial and economic abuse seen in older and vulnerable adults in England and Wales.

Our focus isn’t only on the issues but also on their broader implications for society. We want to know:

  • How widespread is financial abuse among older and vulnerable adults?
  • What forms does it take, and how is it being addressed?
  • How can the law, policies, and societal attitudes evolve to offer better protection?

Why now?

The impacts of financial and economic abuse are profound, leaving older and vulnerable adults at risk of exploitation. By gathering first-hand accounts, we aim to bring this issue into sharper focus and drive positive change in both the legal landscape and public understanding.

How can you take part?

The survey takes just 10 minutes to complete and can be submitted anonymously. We encourage participants to share their experiences, perspectives, and ideas.

For those who want to continue the conversation, there’s an option to provide contact details at the end of the survey. As a thank you, all submissions will be entered into a prize draw, and we’ll donate £500 to a chosen charity.
