HCR Law’s Cambridge office has renewed its sponsorship of Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club (CURUFC), reinforcing its commitment to the local community.
Founded in 1871, CURUFC is one of the world’s most renowned amateur sporting clubs, having produced more than 320 men’s and women’s internationals and more British and Irish Lions than any other club. It currently fields three men’s and three women’s teams.
Independently managed, CURUFC relies on corporate partnerships to provide an exceptional rugby experience for all students. Sponsorship plays an important role in ensuring the club’s long-term financial stability.
The club has recently upgraded to an all-weather Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP), marking the completion of the first phase of an ambitious redevelopment of the historic Grange Road sports ground in central Cambridge. Unveiled in November, the newly transformed, floodlit pitch, named in recognition of principal donor Hugh Mumford, will enable year-round access to high-quality sporting facilities for both students and the wider Cambridge community. The opening marks a major step forward in delivering the University’s Strategy for Sport and Physical Activity, strengthening links between the University and local residents, and promoting health, wellbeing and community connection through sport. It also feeds into the University’s new civic approach to help create a more connected city.
Fabia Howell, Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club, said: “It’s a privilege to continue our relationship with HCR Law and we are so grateful to have them with us at Grange Road. Support like theirs is essential in keeping our club running and we are proud to have their presence felt around the newly developed facility.
As our new pitch development helps us evolve and sow greater benefit into the local sporting community, it’s a huge boon to have partners like HCR Law alongside supporting us and from the whole of CURUFC we want to express our thanks to Natalie and her team.”
Natalie Minott, Partner and Head of Cambridge office, said: “Renewing our partnership with CURUFC reflects our commitment to the community we live and work in. With roots going back to the 1800s, the club is deeply valued locally – not only for nurturing top sporting talent here in Cambridge but for bringing people together and supporting the wider sporting community.
“At HCR Law, supporting local organisations is central to what we do. We’re delighted to continue working with CURUFC to help create opportunities and make a positive impact.”
