Best foot forward for the Northampton Legal Walk on 12 July

The heart of the region’s legal community in Northampton will be taking to the streets in the evening of 12 July to complete the Northampton Legal Walk, all in aid of The Access to Justice Foundation.  They will be joined by individuals and organisations from across the county.

The walk covers both a 10km and 5km route which begin at the Courts and go across the University campus, fine parkland and sites of historical interest.  Walkers will be raising funds for local charities and organisations that support the gap in legal aid provision, for those who cannot afford to pay for advice.  The funding gap faced by the sector has doubled from £15m to £30m in the last year and, combined with the cost of living and long-lasting knock-on effect of the pandemic, frontline services are struggling to meet demand.

Dominic Hopkins, Partner and joint-head of HCR Hewitsons’ Central England office and the county’s Under Sheriff said: “This is a vital cause and one we are delighted to get behind. The Access to Justice Foundation makes a real difference to peoples’ lives through the grants they make. We’re looking forward to seeing you all there for what promises to be a really worthwhile event – it’s not too late to sign up if you still want to join in.”

Charlotte Thornton-Smith, Partner and joint-head of Central England with Dominic also commented: “This is such a key event for the region and a great opportunity to bring legal professionals, organisations and groups together. The hope is to repeat – or even beat – the strong turnout that we saw last year. We will be donating. I hope you will too.”

This year’s legal Walk will start at 5.30pm at the Northampton Combined Court Centre on Lady’s Lane and will end at Lancaster House, HCR Hewitsons’ Central England office. The High Sheriff, Mr Milan Shah MBE will be attending the finish and there will be refreshments and more information about the great work of community advice centres and The Access to Justice Foundation.
