Why choose me
I’m a leading specialist solicitor in restructuring and insolvency with over 25 years’ experience across corporate and personal matters. I act for lenders, insolvency practitioners, directors, partners and individuals, providing clear, commercial advice on all aspects of financial distress.
My work covers pre-pack administrations, winding‑up petitions, bankruptcy, recovery actions and complex insolvency litigation. I’ve been involved in significant cases, including Minmar (929) Limited v Khalastchi & Others, a leading decision on the validity of administrator appointments.
I act for major insolvency practices, recovery firms, clearing and challenger banks and distressed corporates. Clients value my calm, pragmatic and solution‑driven approach; they know I’ll work with them to find a solution that works for them and their business.
I passed the Joint Insolvency Examination Board exams in 2000 and I’m authorised by the ICAEW as a non‑appointment‑taking Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. I’m also a member of the Institute for Turnaround (IFT) and a former Chair of the Eastern Region of R3 – the Association of Business Recovery Professionals.
Based primarily in Norwich, I head up HCR Law’s office there and work closely with our London and Cambridge Restructuring and Insolvency teams, supporting clients regionally and nationally. I’m ranked Band 1 by Chambers UK for Restructuring & Insolvency (East Anglia) and listed in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame for Insolvency & Corporate Recovery (East Anglia). I’m commended as “quick to respond, calm, effective and commercial.”
Whether managing the sale of a distressed business, advising on director liability or guiding individuals through bankruptcy, I combine deep technical expertise with sound commercial judgement to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Recent work highlights include advising on the sale of the London Lions basketball team out of administration; advising administrators on the sale of a nationwide chain of casual dining restaurants; advising a director on his defence of a £180m wrongful trading claim brought against him by liquidators; and presenting on several occasions to a well‑known premium sports car manufacturer on supply chain risk management.
Outside work, I’m a petrolhead and recently obtained my ARDS racing licence. I also enjoy fitness, long‑distance adventure races involving cycling and running and spending time with my two English Bulldogs.
