CARF is coming: getting your crypto tax records ready for HMRC reporting

The Cryptoasset Reporting Framework (CARF) will come into force in the UK from 1 January 2026, significantly increasing HMRC's visibility of cryptoasset activity. While CARF does not introduce a new tax, it will make accurate record keeping, robust reporting processes and defensible tax positions more important than ever.

Join HCR Law, S&W Group and Recap.io for an informative webinar exploring the UK implementation of CARF and the practical steps you can take now to prepare.

During the session, we'll discuss the implementation timeline, who may be affected, the information that could be reported to HMRC, and how investors, advisers and crypto businesses can prepare for the changes ahead.

What we'll cover

  • Gathering and reconciling cryptoasset records
  • Identifying data gaps and evidential weaknesses
  • Reviewing historic tax positions and reporting processes
  • Understanding adviser and business risk
  • Preparing for potential reporting obligations
  • Using technology to turn fragmented cryptoasset data into a more complete and defensible position

Who should attend?

  • Investors, who want to understand what information HMRC may receive, organise their records and assess whether historic tax positions are adequately supported.
  • Accountants and tax advisers, who are looking to strengthen crypto-related questions within client onboarding, evidence gathering and tax return processes.
  • Crypto businesses, that need to assess whether CARF applies to them, identify data gaps and prepare their reporting, due diligence and customer communication processes.
  • Private client advisers, who want to use CARF as an opportunity to discuss cryptoasset disclosure, access, succession planning and estate administration with clients.
