New office head plans action to support community

Rebecca Kirk, the new head of HCR’s Hereford office, already has plans to support the city and the community in her new role.

Having lived in the area for the last seven years, she has already literally taken steps to raise money for those in need – she and 29 other Herefordshire women trekked to Everest base camp four years ago to raise more than £120,000 for two charities; Community Action Nepal, who used the money to build a care home for elderly residents, and Families’ Activity Breaks (FAB) which provides activity breaks and support for bereaved military families.

Rebecca, an employment lawyer who has strong links with the defence and security community around the city, is keen to see the office continuing to support local causes. She would like to focus that support towards mental health charities, both because of the value of that support to veterans and because of the wider impact of the last year and its lockdowns.

She said: “I want to make sure that we focus on giving our time and practical effort to help the community whenever we can – the Megan Baker House initiative in 2018, when we repainted rooms and collected tolls for them at Whitney, was fantastic and I think that getting stuck in is the way forward.” The office also supported Close House youth centre in a similar way the previous year.

Her pride in what the HCR team in Hereford offers is clear – she said: “People know they can come to us to buy a house, get help and support following a relationship breakdown or to deal with their land issues. They will also know about our expertise in defence and security and rural and agricultural matters.

“What they may not know is that we have real cyber and technological expertise, a corporate team which handles major mergers and acquisitions and a nationally-acknowledged education team too; we also deal with major employers here and across the UK and abroad. Our range of expertise is considerable and, having made Hereford my home seven years ago, I am incredibly proud to lead such a fantastic team at HCR and to be part of the wonderful community here in Herefordshire.”
