HCR join local businesses sleeping out for charity

26th January 2023

A number of Partners, Solicitors, Trainees and Paralegals from our Cheltenham office slept outside in the January weather to raise awareness as part of a nationwide initiative to tackle homelessness.

The Big Sleep Out event, which was held at Brickhampton Court Golf Complex on 25 January, aims to raise funds for Caring for Communities and People. Funding will go towards assisting people in financial hardship with the aim of helping to avoid debt and sustain accommodation.

Money raised will also help to provide family support services, emergency food parcels and supported housing for 16-25 year-olds.

The evening started at Brickhampton Court Golf Clubhouse with a welcome and introduction. Reflections were given from guest speakers, with one emphasising that it’s a shame that in 2023 people are still forced to sleep rough and that these events are needed to raise awareness. They also said the event this year was much bigger than in previous years, showing the huge amount of support for the initiative.

By 10pm it was time for the team to set up their beds for the night. They chatted with local businesses also taking part in the event until 1am.

Tim Ward, Head of Corporate in Cheltenham, said: “It’s vital that we show our support for Caring for Communities and People. Sleeping out for one night is a small inconvenience compared to what millions of those less fortunate go through each day, facing ongoing struggles. I would urge everyone to keep donating to the cause.”

Mahima Chowdhury, trainee solicitor in the Corporate team, said: “While it was very difficult to settle throughout the night because of the temperature dropping– particularly around 4am – I’m glad we were able to raise funds for such an important cause.”

So far, the team have raised just under £1,800. To donate, please visit their JustGiving page.
