Lawyers help young Worcester stars to shine

27th March 2018

Selfless help and support for their families, friends and those in need brought three young Worcestershire stars together at the Tryangle Awards, to receive recognition of their courage, kindness and care in the award scheme’s Good Friends and Carers category, sponsored by Worcester law firm Harrison Clark Rickerbys.

Bethany Plumpton, from St Johns, who has overcome her own on-going heart problems to volunteer at Worcestershire Parent and Carers Community (WPCC), is now in her third year at Birmingham College of Food, where she’s studying patisserie. She puts those skills to great use for the WPCC, baking for their events, and has also encouraged others to support heart health by taking part in last year’s Worcester Hearty Walk.

Bethany helps to care for her mother, who also has health issues, and also supports others in the group – her nomination said: “It has been lovely to see Bethany overcome all her issues to become this amazing young woman. I am sure she is an inspiration to others.”

Logan Ware from Blackpole, who also cares for his mother, particularly since his stepfather died recently, has become a Young Ambassador for Action for Children, where he especially supports other transgender young people.

Emily Tonks, aged 13, is the youngest recipient of the award – as a teenage helper at 12th Kidderminster Brownies, her kindness and care for newcomer Poppy has meant that Poppy, who has particular needs when dealing with new experiences, can continue to enjoy Brownies and indeed branch out into other group activities.

Emily was nominated by Poppy’s mum, who said: “Emily was there for my daughter from the time she arrived and has been gentle and reassuring since the beginning. She has shown endless patience and kindness on every occasion. She is an amazing role model and my daughter idolises her. Without Emily’s one to one support, my daughter would have been unable to be part of this organisation.”

All three winners received their awards from Jonathan Brew and Charlotte Thornton-Smith from Harrison Clark Rickerbys. The Tryangle Awards are run by Young Solutions Worcestershire which aims to safeguard and support young people.

Charlotte said afterwards: “They are all such an inspiration – it is just marvellous to see how focused they are on helping others around them, even when they have difficulties themselves. We are always delighted to sponsor the Tryangle Awards because they recognise the very best qualities to which we can all aspire.”

Cat Illingworth of Young Solutions said: “The Tryangle Awards is always an inspirational evening, and it means a lot to the young people and their families. We really appreciate the support of Harrison Clark Rickerbys and they help to make it a fantastic event.”
