Ready, Steady, Go! Chariots of Fire is back!

14th February 2024

Chariots of Fire, the region’s largest charitable relay race, is back for 2024 and this year it will be bigger and better than before.

The race, a two-mile run through the heart of Cambridge city centre and its scenic colleges, will see over 2,000 runners congregate on Sunday 22 September in aid of this year’s official charity Magpas Air Ambulance.

Magpas is a crucial service that operates a 24/7 air ambulance service across the Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire regions. Using their helicopter and rapid response vehicles they provide hospital-level emergency medicine straight to the scene of a patient’s incident – ensuring that their life-saving care reaches those where every second counts.

To facilitate such a large and popular race we have partnered with the UK’s largest running event organiser RunThrough, who share our mission to inspire a more active nation through running and activities. As a leading events company they are dedicated to providing Chariots of Fire with a quality, inclusive race experience for runners of all ages and abilities.

Colin Jones, Trustee of the HCR Hewitsons Charity said “The incredible work that Magpas Air Ambulance do in delivering their essential service to critical patients is something that cannot be overstated. By partnering with RunThrough we can provide a suitable stage for local businesses, colleges and organisations to come together and raise money for this great cause.”

Magpas Air Ambulance Director of Fundraising, Lucy Chapman, adds “Magpas Air Ambulance has been saving lives and keeping families together since 1971. We’re thrilled to be chosen as the beneficiary charity of this event that, like Magpas Air Ambulance, has such strong connections and established roots in the local community. Get ready to fundraise like never before in this amazing and unique running event—and help us save more lives in Cambridgeshire and beyond.”

Entry costs £150 for a team of six runners and can be booked via the website here.
