Stronger together – education and charities expertise combined

3rd September 2021

The combination of an award-winning education team and a top-ranked charities team, as created by the merger between HCR and Hewitsons, means that the new wider team can offer all the legal expertise which educational establishments and charities need.

Many educational institutions now have charitable status and an in-depth understanding of good governance, the Charity Commission’s standards and the often complex, sensitive and demanding legal requirements is vital.

Krissy Scott, who heads the wider education and charities sector team, said: “I’m delighted that Virginia Henley’s team can join us; the charities team have very considerable experience and in-depth expertise in the charities sector, and we really appreciate what they can bring to our clients, at all levels from schools to universities as well as not-for-profit organisations.

“I know that we in turn can support them within the education sector, given our wealth of experience with independent schools and academies, as well as our growing higher and further education clients.”

Virginia Henley said: “The education team’s passion for their sector matches ours for charities, and we’re delighted to combine our strengths. I hope that we can extend our reach to a wider range of not-for-profit enterprises too – it is an expanding area of interest.”

The education team has won the EducationInvestor award and is shortlisted again as finalists in this year’s awards; the charities team has been ranked Tier 1 by the Legal 500 directory of leading lawyers.
