Sunshine, showers and (hobby horse) show jumping at HCR Hewitsons Business Games 2023

23rd June 2023

Over 150 people gathered at the University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus on Thursday 22 June to compete in this year’s HCR Hewitsons Business Games, hosted with Northamptonshire Sport.

Organisations who competed last year experienced some déjà vu thanks to the initial heavy showers, but that didn’t dampen spirits. With BBC Radio Northampton’s John Griff providing thrilling commentary throughout, 19 teams went head-to-head in a friendly battle – though there was certainly tension in the air – for the prized HCR Hewitsons Cup.

The sun eventually shone down on the array of activities taking place, from tag boxing and New Age Kurling, to hobby horse show jumping. Three hours of intense competition between businesses, institutions and other organisations from across the region followed by a hog roast and points scoring, carefully audited by our event partner.

Congratulations to pHp Architects for taking third place and to Avon for coming second, with medals presented by Charlotte Thornton-Smith, Joint Head of Central England Office. The leader board was incredibly tight but HCR Hewitsons took home the Cup, presented by David Laing – Pro Chancellor of the University.

Dominic Hopkins, Joint Head of Central England Office, said: “Our second year of hosting the Games, this time at our neighbour’s fantastic facilities, and what a turn out it was. We were delighted to once again bring clients and friends of the firm together for an evening of fun, fitness and networking. A big thank you to everyone who took part and to Northamptonshire Sport who delivered the event superbly – perhaps we’ll be third time lucky avoiding the rain in 2024?”
