Employment law gives me the chance to work with clients across the public, private and charitable sectors. Their approach to risk can really vary, with, for example, an SME being more afraid of ending up in a tribunal than a large corporate, as for them the risk may be more easily absorbed. It’s this mix and the balance of being able to provide legal expertise and applying practical, sensible solutions to problems that has drawn me to practice employment law.

Hear what our clients say about us

Employment tribunals can be protracted, emotional and expensive. When a senior manager within the care sector claimed for unfair dismissal following health and safety whistleblowing, she contacted Employment and Immigration Legal Director Guy Hollebon. Guy’s knowledge of the employment landscape, and, in particular, employment tribunals, meant he was able to negotiate a successful settlement shortly before the hearing. This meant his client avoided the need to attend the tribunal and was able to draw a line under the case and move on. Following this, Guy’s client said: “It is a huge relief for me to have this case concluded and you have been a tremendous help at every step along the way.  I have great admiration and respect for your knowledge, professionalism, straight forward approach, patience and kindness.

I had a very positive experience with HCR Law during my immigration application. Dionne Russell was extremely professional, supportive, and clear throughout the whole process. She guided me and my family with care, answered our questions, and made everything feel much easier to manage. I truly appreciate the excellent service and would highly recommend Dionne and the team at HCR Law.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to this firm for the outstanding support provided throughout my redundancy process. Matthew Gillett was exceptionally helpful, approachable, and reassuring throughout. His clear advice and prompt communication made a difficult situation far easier to manage.

We were extremely pleased with the training delivered by HCR Law on the distinction between workplace banter and discrimination, we also received training from them regarding how to conduct effective investigations. The sessions were engaging, practical, and highly relevant, and we received excellent feedback from all delegates who attended. The positive impact of the training led us to bring HCR Law back to deliver further sessions, and we will be booking additional training again this year. We would highly recommend them.

Catherine delivers training for us which is shaped by her acute understanding of our business and underpinned by a high level of commerciality. She is equally credible whether working with the business’s senior leaders, or staff at every level. Her training is always relevant, on point and relatable for any audience, with the inclusion of real-world examples that employees understand.

Sarah Price and Adam Morris delivered a workshop session on employment law to a group of elite athletes on behalf of British Equestrian, and it was fantastic! The athletes gained so much from it, and the session was perfectly pitched for them. Thank you for your time and energy and for creating such an engaging and interactive experience.

I want to extend a special thanks to you for sharing such valuable insights in your Employment Rights Bill training. Your detailed review of the bill and key information you provided was incredibly helpful. It gave us a clear understanding of what we can do moving forward, and we are excited to put this into practice.

Adam Cotterill was incredibly helpful in guiding me and my partner through the process of reapplying for our UK Unmarried Couples visa. After our initial application was rejected, we were extremely stressed and unsure of how to proceed. Adam supported us every step of the way, providing clear advice, reassurance and guidance. Thanks to his expertise, the process felt far more manageable, and we felt confident in our reapplication.

HCR supported us in managing an employee settlement agreement. As an owner-led SME without internal HR or legal support, Lisa Kemp provided surety, a safe pair of hands and direct, clear, pragmatic advice. We also felt she was thoughtful of time and therefore cost, throughout the process. We’d happily recommend both HCR and Lisa to other organisations seeking similar legal support.

He has a wealth of experience in business immigration law regularly advising employers on sponsorship matters and compliance. “He’s incredibly dedicated and really knows his stuff – a fantastic lawyer,” comments one impressed source.

The team is very responsive, and I like the way that they ensure that more than one team member is familiar with a case so that they can give seamless advice in the absence of the lead lawyer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Employment law solicitors are lawyers who advise on the legal side of the workplace relationship, covering contracts, policies, disciplinary action, discrimination and dismissal. HCR Law’s employment law solicitors support HR teams with day to day compliance and represent clients through employment tribunal proceedings, helping employers manage risk and employees understand their rights.

Immigration solicitors are lawyers who advise on visa applications, right to work compliance and sponsor licence matters for businesses and individuals. HCR Law’s immigration solicitors work closely with our employment team to support employers recruiting overseas talent, and individuals navigating personal immigration applications, giving clients joined up advice across employment and immigration law.

Employment law advice covers guidance on the legal rights and obligations that apply to the workplace relationship, from contracts to workplace disputes. HCR Law provides practical employment law advice to both employers and employees, whether that means reviewing a contract, guiding you through a disciplinary process, or advising on your options ahead of a tribunal claim.

A settlement agreement is a legally binding contract that ends an employment relationship on agreed terms, usually including a payment in exchange for the employee waiving certain claims. HCR Law’s settlement agreement solicitors independently confirm you understand the terms before signing, as required by law for the agreement to take effect.

A sponsor licence allows a UK business to legally employ workers from overseas. HCR Law’s immigration team advises employers through the full sponsor licence application process, including eligibility, compliance duties and ongoing reporting requirements, helping businesses build and manage a compliant international workforce without falling foul of Home Office rules.

An employment tribunal is the court that hears workplace disputes such as unfair dismissal, discrimination and unpaid wages claims. HCR Law’s employment tribunal solicitors represent both employers and employees through the process, from early conciliation and case preparation through to representation at hearing, advising on the merits and risks of a claim early on.

Unfair dismissal is when an employee is dismissed without a fair reason or a fair process being followed. HCR Law’s unfair dismissal solicitors advise both employees bringing a claim and employers defending one, assessing the circumstances against the legal tests for fairness and representing clients through negotiation, settlement or tribunal proceedings.
